The Sunday Service:
The subject for this week’s lesson sermon is: Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced. That’s quite a subject title and may well baffle those who are unfamiliar with Christian Science. However, learning how to distinguish the true from the false is a topic which could not be more up-to-date.
Two sample citations give a flavour of what it contains:
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall arise against thee in judgement thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 54 17
“Christian Science goes to the bottom of mental action, and reveals the theodicy which indicates the rightness of all divine action, as the emanation of the divine Mind, and the consequent wrongness of the opposite so-called action – evil, occultism, necromancy, mesmerism, animal magnetism, hypnotism.” (S&H 104:13)
