Praying with Manchester
via The Bible Lesson

Each day Christian Scientists study published texts from the Bible and the book, 'Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which is then read in church as the sermon for the Sunday services. In the following account, the Lesson Sermon provided the inspiration and peace which the reader was seeking...

"When I heard  the news of the bombing in Manchester, my first thought was to see what today’s Lesson Sermon was saying and I was just in awe …. Every sentence was showing God’s love and explaining the powerlessness of evil. I found myself thanking Mary Baker Eddy for her prescience in providing the Daily Lesson Sermons.

In the Responsive Reading I replaced the word my/me/mine/I with we/us/our. Then I felt God’s power speaking to everyone – in Manchester, the UK, and the World.

This is how it came out :

In thee, O Lord, do we put our trust: let us never be put to confusion.

Be thou our strong habitation, whereunto we may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save us; for thou art our rock and our fortress.

Deliver us, O our God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

For thou art our hope, O Lord God:

Let our mouths be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.

For our enemies speak against us; and they that lay wait for our souls take counsel together,

O God, be not far from us:

Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to our souls;

But we will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.

Our mouths shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day;

We will go in the strength of the Lord God:"

Do join us to hear this Lesson Sermon next Sunday either in church or online.
