THE RIGHT WAY

I have always been grateful for these words in Isaiah: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left”.

When making decisions in life, it’s sometimes hard to know if we are taking the right step. Often the decisions we make are clear-cut and uncomplicated, but at other times we hesitate, and feel indecisive. Reaching out to the one Mind for guidance, we listen for that “still, small voice”, praying with Mrs. Eddy’s sublime words, “I will listen for Thy voice, lest my footsteps stray”.

Recently, I had to make an important decision, and even after much prayer, the way ahead wasn’t clear to me. I found this rather troubling, as I have become used to hearing and obeying that “word behind me, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it...”

After several days of mental tussle, I reached out to God and simply prayed, “Father, please help me... give me a sign, or point the way for me as I make my decision, one way or the other!” And then I turned the whole situation over to my Father-Mother, trusting in divine Love’s guidance.

A day or so later, it came to me clearly to ring a fellow-Christian Scientist, just to chat and catch up. During our conversation, this dear friend shared such loving and helpful ideas (both spiritual and practical) that the feelings of confusion and indecisiveness which had been bothering me for weeks began to lift...it was like a shaft of sunlight had pierced “the shade of gloom”! Not long after, I made my decision and felt comfortable doing so.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Miscellany: “The right way wins the right of way”. When we turn to God and “follow the leadings of Truth”, the right way will always emerge, and we can walk in that way with confidence and trust in God.
