All the minutiae of human affairs

I had a very small experience this week, which was so small, it barely deserves a mention, but I am continually in awe at how divine Mind's leadings can be experienced even in the minutiae of human affairs, and not just in the larger, more important areas of our experience .  Mrs. Eddy writes in her Miscellaneous Writings,  "By purifying human thought, this state of mind permeates with increased harmony all the minutiae of human affairs".

Just before Christmas, my husband installed a dual light in our porch, which lit up the porch itself, and the front door.  The Christmas wreath, which before had been in semi-darkness, was now beautifully lit, and we were delighted with the effect it created.

When taking down the wreath in the New Year, it occurred to me that it might be a nice idea to have something permanently hanging on the front door, not just a wreath at Christmas.   I had no idea what that something would be, but as I often find with right ideas, they keep tapping at one's thought, until finally one has to do something about them!

Still unclear what I would be looking for, I popped into a couple of local nurseries and wandered around their displays.  Nothing there. "This is ridiculous", I thought, "you don't know what you're looking for, so how can you expect to find whatever it is you are looking for?"

Rather disheartened, I headed for home.  As I drove along, the thought came to me as clear as daylight to take a detour and pop in to Chessington Nurseries.  I seldom visit this nursery, and I was running late, so rather reluctantly I made my way to this particular garden shop.   The Christmas decorations were being packed away, and the store was in a bit of a mess, but I started looking through what remained on the shelves.  And suddenly, there it was...I immediately recognised that the beautiful fronds of leaves and pine cones in my hand was what I had been looking for, even though I had never pictured what we might like to have hanging on the front door!  It was like I had come home in my search, just by following "the leadings of Truth", and by responding to that angel thought which had so clearly taken me to this particular nursery.

The fronds are now hanging on our front door, beautifully lit up at night by our new porch light!   It was a very small experience in the minutiae of my day, but a lovely example of the certainty we can all feel when listening to and obeying these spiritual intuitions coming from our Father-Mother.   As a line from a much-loved hymn reassures us,  "He knows the angels that you need and sends them to your side, to comfort, guard and guide".
